A Grief Nobody Prepares You For
There is a particular kind of grief that nobody prepares you for. It is not losing something you had. It is slowly letting go of something you spent years becoming.
The strange part is that nothing dramatic happens. There is no single conversation or life changing event. One morning, you simply notice that the dream you have been carrying for years no longer feels like home. It still looks impressive, it still makes sense on paper, and other people still encourage you to chase it.

When we are young, dreams often begin as borrowed ideas. They come from parents who wanted stability, teachers who recognised our potential, or a society that quietly decides which lives are worth admiring. Somewhere along the way, we collect ambitions the same way we collect qualifications, and we do not always stop to ask whether they still fit.
Perhaps that is why changing your mind feels so uncomfortable. People celebrate consistency. They admire the person who wanted to be a lawyer at twelve and became one at thirty. They love stories that move in straight lines, because straight lines are easy to understand.

Changing your mind is not always evidence that you gave up. Sometimes it is evidence that you finally paid attention.
What the North Node Actually Wants
One of the reasons I return to astrology during moments like these is because it never assumes you will remain the same person forever.
The North Node is not interested in preserving the life you have already built. It gently pulls you towards the life you are still becoming, and it asks you to leave familiar versions of yourself behind, even when they once felt perfectly right. That invitation is rarely comfortable. Growth almost never is.

What That Uncertainty Actually Looks Like
You hesitate before answering, "so, what do you do." You stop making five year plans, because you are no longer certain which direction feels true. You begin saying no to opportunities that the younger version of you would have accepted immediately.
From the outside, it can look like you have lost ambition. In reality, you are becoming more selective about where your ambition belongs.
The Dream Did Not Fail
Perhaps that is what nobody tells you about dreams. The goal was never to protect the first one forever. The goal was to keep growing until your dreams grew with you.
There is no prize for reaching a destination that no longer feels like yours. There is only the quiet courage of admitting that you have changed.
And maybe that is what adulthood is really asking of us, not to become exactly who we imagined at twenty, but to have the honesty to recognise when the person standing here today wants something different.
Your birth chart has never expected you to spend your entire life chasing the same dream. It has always known that some versions of you are only meant to exist long enough to introduce you to the next one.
Perhaps the dream did not fail. Perhaps it simply finished its job.
